Dear afterschool and education colleagues, advocates, and friends:

The Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance (RIASPA) is pleased to present the 13th annual Lights On Afterschool Breakfast of Champions on Wednesday, October 21, at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. This event will call attention to the critical need for and importance of afterschool and summer programs to children, youth, families, and communities; and increase awareness and support for afterschool and summer programs among policymakers, funders, and other decision makers.

This year’s theme is Passion, Potential, Possibility. Our featured speaker will be the renowned author and activist Jonathan Kozol. A stellar advocate for children and youth, Kozol will use his unending energy to rouse and challenge attendees about how we can better educate our young people.

Additionally, three other speakers will, in a series of short presentations, share personal and professional experiences to demonstrate that afterschool and summer programs are crucial in nurturing the passion, potential, and possibility of children and youth.

The Breakfast of Champions will also include:

+ A special gallery of exemplary professionals in the afterschool field.
+ A book signing by Mr. Kozol.

To register, please use this link: https://uwriweb.org/lightson. There is an early-bird rate of $35.00 for the Breakfast valid until September 30, after which the cost will be $40.00. (There is also a student and AmeriCorps special rate of $25.00 valid throughout the registration period. A special code, supplied via request, is necessary to receive this rate.)
